The Doors To Release A 7″ Vinyl Single For “Light My Fire”

This bit of Friday news is for those rabid collectors of the small things that pertain to a band. And this one is particularly for Doors fans. On July 28, Rhino and Elektra will reissue a 7″ vinyl single of a Japanese pressing of “Light My Fire”. It is backed with “The Crystal Ship”. Both tracks on this reissue are newly remastered.

This celebrates the 50 year anniversary of the single release (June 3, 1967, and topping out at #1 on July 29, 1967, remaining for three cycle weeks.

[UPDATE] New Doors Singles Set Includes Vinyl Singles Box

As we begin our slip into July (the SECOND half of the year!), we find that The Doors are getting some attention. Over the time of their short career, The Doors released a nice collection of singles and long players. In all, there were six studio albums beginning with their self-titled 1967 set, The Doors, and ending with their 1971 L.A. Woman album. They issued a live set, Absolutely Live (1970), and a compilation set, 13 (1970). Since then, there have been a wealth of Doors sets to keep the money exchanging hands.

On August 25, Elektra Records will revisit the territory of The Doors with two packages, three if you count their September Box release (more on this in a bit). The two sets will be called The Singles.

Watch for a 2CD compilation (content information is still unavailable), and a 2CD/BD set, which may likely present HD versions of songs, and maybe…maybe 5.1. Maybe. When content information becomes available, I’ll post an update.

On September 15, Elektra will follow-up with a 7″ vinyl singles box with 20 45s. This box is also being labeled as The Singles.

The Doors Get 3CD/1LP 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition Of 1967 Debut

As 2017 gets into motion, it’s nice to see news about one of the New Year’s big reissue, the remastered and expanded Anniversary edition of The Doors eponymous debut. Originally released in 1967, the album introduced the band to the world. They were already a favorite of the famed LA music scene, and this album was the result of years of playing smaller stages. The fact that it’s actually been 50 years since the release of this classic album is amazing in and of itself (I was a mere nine years old at its release).

The Doors provided not only an all around excellent listening experience, but also two big hits with “Break On Through”, and “Light My Fire”. I’m sure that this news is being met with more than a bit of enthusiasm. Of course, with this, you’re getting a huge set that may include more than you’re wanting (like vinyl LP).  Nevertheless, this 50th Anniversary Edition is pretty well stocked. Not everyone will be pleased. therefore I suggest waiting for the inevitable breakout CDs that will feature the Stereo and Mono mixes along with a minimal booklet.

The package includes the original album on two CDs as original mixes that include Stereo, and Mono. Each set of mixes come on their own CD. The third CD is an eight track live set of Live At The Matrix (San Francisco) – March 7, 1967. A vinyl LP is added of the original Mono mix. The discs are housed in a 12″ x 12″ hardcover book. The book treats with rare photos, new notes, and more.

The Doors: 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, reissued via Rhino Records, will be made available on March 31.

The Doors’ Full Circle/Other Voices Albums Coming to CD and LP In September

Elektra Records will release a 2CD set featuring Full Circle, and Other Voices. The two Doors classic albums will be joined by “Treetrunk”, a non-album B-side of “Get Up And Dance” from the Full Circle sessions. This, however, has been released before. It will likely be remastered as there are also 180g-weight vinyl sets coming for both albums. If there is remastering for the LPs, they will likely be included on this CD set.

The Full Circle/Other Voices sets are scheduled for September 4.

New SACD Title Reissues Forthcoming Via Audio Fidelity (Doors, Joe Cocker)

Audio Fidelity, the remastering label run by industry veteran, Marshall Blonstein, has announced its next two Hybrid SACD title, both planned for reissue on June 2. In this case, one is a previously released Quad 4-channel mix enhanced for SACD playback!

The titles include The Best Of The Doors (1973), originally released as only a Quadrophonic title, featuring eleven Doors classics, and With A Little Help From My Friends, the 1969 Joe Cocker debut. It would appear that the Joe Cocker title will be Stereo only.
