Allman Brothers Band Classic Idlewild South Reissue Details

Idlewild South 2CDMore details gave emerged from the upcoming December 4 reissue of Idlewild South, the second Allman Brothers Band, released in 1970.There’s lots of great music on this album, which includes the original version of “Midnight Rider”.

The new Deluxe Edition of Idlewild South looks great as a packaged set. It will be a nice library slot for all of your Allman Brothers Band collection pieces, sitting beautifully along with them. But, of course, it’s what’s inside that counts.

The set will offer Live At Ludlow Garage 1970. On both the larger 3CD/BD set, and the 2CD set, the whole show is available. The 2CD Edition only contains three bonus tracks. The album reissue adds in five bonus inclusions on the first CD that range from outtakes to alternates, plus a mono single edit of “Revival (Love Is Everywhere)” (see track list below). The added Blu-ray audio offers all of the tracks in high definition 96kHz/24-bit splendor, both Stereo and 5.1 Surround. The BD will include an added alternate mix of “Midnight Rider”.

The booklet looks to be extraordinary. If anything, at least don’t pass up the 2CD Deluxe Edition (if you’re a fan at all).

Deluxe Editions (with BD-Audio!) of Idlewild South by Allman Brothers Band Planned For November

ABB Idlewild SouthIdlewild South, the second Allman Brothers Band album, was released back in the rough terrain of the beginning ’70s. It followed a their eponymous debut by a mere ten months (bands were musically prolific and confident in those days). With much tour support, these two albums began to take on their own energy. Idlewild South contains the classic ABB version of “Midnight Rider”, a song later re-recorded by Gregg Allman for his Laid Back solo album. The Gregg Allman solo version charted well. Idlewild South is also home to another Allman Brothers Band classic, “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed”.

On November 27, Universal Music will release several versions of this album in an audio update, and expanded by a few bonus tracks. For fans of surround, the news becomes even better. There will be new upgraded mixes that will result in hi-resolution Stereo and 5.1 Surround Sound. Canada Amazon is presenting a December 4 date of release. It may be that this set is now planned for that date is Canada is ahead of the rest in updating. We’ll see.

What we can expect are a Super Deluxe Edition 3CD/1BD-Audio package as well as a 2CD set, and a simple CD issue with new remaster for the minimalists who care not for extra frills and materials. Thus far, the track-list is unknown. When it becomes known, I will update this post!

An Expansive The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings Featuring The Allman Brothers Band To Arrive In July

The Allman Brothers Band has attained a clarity that few Rock bands can lay claim to, a clarity that has lovingly brought them into the hearts of many fans. Over their years, they have endured catastrophe with the deaths of Duane Allman, and in a similar mishap, of Berry Oakley, both just a year apart from each other. But they have also produced some important live albums including the partial live set, Eat A Peach, and the magnificent At Fillmore East.

ABBFillmore East

At Fillmore East documented the final shows of the legendary Fillmore East featuring the three night stands in March of 1971 by The Allman Brothers Band. Hailed by many as one of the best live albums ever made, the album helped the band achieve a massive fame that they still hold to this day.

On July 29, Mercury Records (the original albums were released on Capricorn Records) will revisit the shows with The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings. With not too much info to go on, there will be a CD issue, along with a 4LP set, and the usual DD of the title.

As more info becomes available, I will be sure to provide the details in an update.
