New Roger Waters Solo Album, Is This The Life You Really Want?, On Calendar

Rogers Waters of Pink Floyd is an astute observer of our times. Without slipping into political preferences (I have none), and falling prey to inevitable and argumentative differences, I just stand on the overall view that Pink Floyd said much about the make up of humankind and our shared disturbances. As such, I pay more attention to a Roger Waters composition than I might another songwriter.

It’s been almost 25 years since Roger Waters has released a solo album. That was his Amused to Death look at our need for distractions, viewing them as a major factor in the deconstruction of humankind. That will change with the promised upcoming release of his latest album, Is This The Life We Really Want? This is a long-thought out concept album that looks at humankind a bit like Animals did. It conceptually looks at the governed as a mass led astray and abandoned for the wants and needs of the few that hold all the power and cash-flow.

Whatever politics/world view/philosophical outlook you subscribe to, Roger Waters has lyrically explored them. With his latest, there’s no doubt it will be as provocative as anything he has done before. The word is that the content of the album features songs written during his Pink Floyd days, and some from his Amused To Death set. The rest is new. The only  (small) regret is that it won’t be titled a Pink Floyd album!

Is This The Life You Really Want? is on the calendar for release on May 19.

Legacy Recordings To Reissue Roger Waters Solo Classic, Amused To Death, In July

Roger Waters Amused To DeathIt seems as if we have waited forever for the promise of Amused To Death by Roger Waters on SACD (it’s still in the plans). But just as we might have been giving up some hope, Sony comes around with a magnificent plan to reissue the solo classic from 1992 in a variety of upgrades that include 5.1 remixes and Blu-ray Audio discs, 200g vinyl 2LP, and a variety of DD availability.

On July 24, Legacy Recordings will reissue Amused To Death with a 5.1 remix, and Stereo remaster by James Guthrie. The availability will include standard CD, a CD/BD-Audio Deluxe Edition (with the 5.1 Surround mix), 2LP (black vinyl), 2LP (Limited Edition picture), and DD.

The sets will come with new artwork, no doubt an expansive booklet (lyrics, pictures, notes), and perhaps even more.

Roger Waters Amused To Death New CD

Rogers Waters’ Amused To Death To Get Audio Remixes

Roger Waters Amused To DeathAs Pink Floyd dismantled the collective engines of their greatness, tossing the bolts haphazardly aside so as to effectively prevent them from creating as a viable unit, Roger Waters moved on to create more albums that would have made more classic Pink Floyd. One of them is his last rock and roll solo studio work, Amused To Death. Amused To Death is an exploration of the human psyche, and humanity’s collective lapses, all encouraged by television as a media of exchange.

Musically, Waters is easily at the top of his usual game with this album. Amused To Death can be called by some as Waters’ most provocative work since his departure from the band that gave him his accepted voice. And Roger Waters is one of humanity’s harshest critics noted by his previous works like Animals.

It’s a welcome surprise to discover that Amused To Death is being revisited by Waters and Pink Floyd’s most trusted sound engineer, Jame Guthrie.  With the dominating presence of the internet, much more than when Amused To Death was first released back in 1992. the intensity of the album now takes on a whole new meaning and import.

Acoustic Sounds, along with Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings will, later this year, release a new audio update of Amused To Death with new Stereo mix, as well as a new fleshed out 5,1 Surround mix.  In addition to these things (which would make the most devout of fans happy enough), there will be new, never before released “content” and brand new graphics.

Exciting news? We think so!
