Thanks to Michael C for the update on this set!

New Deluxe Editions Of No Earthly Connection (Wakeman), and XII (Barclay James Harvest)

There are two albums being revisited in 2CD Deluxe Editions, although the details are sparse. I decided to post them as bits of news to get fans aware of the upcoming titles (Christmas lists, saving of pennies, etc).

On October 28, Esoteric Recordings will continue their definitive approach to Barclay James Harvest titles with the release of a 3CD Edition of XII from 1979, a year after their Gone To Earth album. XII also represents the last album from the original lineup of the band. Of course, this new reissue will feature brand new remastering in the way of previous BJH reissues by Esoteric. And with 3CDs, the expansion should be as impressive as the previous reissues of earlier BJH titles.

On November 11, watch for a 2CD Deluxe Edition of No Earthly Connection, the loved seven track A&M issue by Rick Wakeman from 1976. With new remastering and a live set.

When more details arrive, I’ll get an update out on both of these reissues.

Rick Wakeman Titles, King Arthur, The Six Wives Of Henry VIII, Reissued As Deluxe Editions In February (UK Report)

Universal UK will reissue two classic Rick Wakeman titles that include The Six Wives Of Henry VIII (1973), and The Myths And Legends Of King Arthur And The Knights Of The Round Table (1975). The Deluxe Editions of these titles are planned as CD/DVD sets, currently scheduled for the UK marketplace (for now).

Rick Wakeman gained his foothold in music, first as a session man, then as the keyboardist for Strawbs. After these brief stays, he became the highly regarded keyboardist for YES, becoming a legendary part of Fragile, Close To The Edge, Tales From Topographic Oceans, Going For The One, Tormato, and Union. Between all of these affiliations, Rick Wakeman composed excellent progressive pieces that include the above mentioned titles, as well as Journey To The Centre Of The Earth (1974), No Earthly Connection (1976), and others. All were chart successes that endeared him to many fans.

On February 2, Universal UK will reissue both titles. As of yet, there is little information as to what these will contain (beyond the remastered audio). But, with a CD and a DVD in the pack, it should be quite interesting. It might even be 5.1 Surround for fans of that format.

Stay posted for more info as it becomes available.

Rick Wakeman A&M Catalog To Be Reissued

RickWakeman No Earthly ConnectionRick Wakeman got his first real grounded play in Rock and Roll while being in Strawbs. However, his stand with YES during their most interesting years did more for his visibility than anything else up to that point. Still with A&M Records, Wakeman released a solo effort, The Six Wives Of Henry VIII.  That album performed well, resonating with fans and critics.  With the release of his followup album, Journey To The Centre Of The Earth, his solo work was cemented, and he had become a star in his own right.

Over the years, Wakeman would rejoin YES, leave, all the while continuing to create solo works that included The Myths And Legends Of King Arthur, Listzomania, No Earthly Connection, White Rock, and others.  And that was just the ’70s.  In the ’80s, he pounded out over ten albums.

If you’re a Rick Wakeman fan, then you will be excited to know that A&M Records will engage in a reissue campaign for the entirety of Rick Wakeman’s A&M label output beginning in July.  Those include previously mentioned titles on through Rhapsodies, released in 1979.  While the releases may initially begin in the UK, they are expected to be released in the US as well.

I think that’s something to get excited about, don’t you?
