3CD/1LP 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition OF Ramones Classic, Rocket To Russia

By now, there’s little doubt that Ramones left behind a massive vault of alternate mixes for their albums.  Since both the revered eponymous debut (1976), and its esteemed follow-up, Leave Home (1977), have now had 40th Anniversary remaster and expanded editions issued, it’s only the calendar that separates the others as they follow. And since nothing really needs to be said about Ramones, who are classic performers with an origin pinned to CBGBs, and the start of the Punk era in the US, we’ll just drop into this bit of news:

On November 24, Rhino Records will reissue Rocket To Russia, the third Ramones classic album released almost a year later after Leave Home, although still in the same year of 1977. Clearly, they were in their prime with originality and freshness still poppin’ for them. Rocket to Russia went further than their previous two to create a Pop effort loved by a wider group of listeners. Although an outtake from the previous Leave Home sessions, “Sheena Is A Punk Rocker”, as a single, helped Rocket To Russia become a more widely accepted album in a growing Punk music climate. Also from the new album was “Rockaway Beach”, and “Do You Wanna Dance?”, a Pop/Punk cover of the timeless and popular Bobby Freeman tune.

The new 40th Anniversary Edition of Rocket To Russia will be released as a 3CD/1LP collector’s set, as well as a single CD featuring only the newly remastered album. The Deluxe Edition contains the original album, and its tracking mix (first “official” recording of the song, pre-final mix) on the first CD, the second CD is a liberal collection of alternate mixes, and the third CD, a 25-song live set from Glasgow’s Apollo Centre from 1977. The included LP is simply the tracking mix on vinyl! There is no doubt about the included book adding excellent value to the entire package.

There is a single CD edition will provide the original album remastered.

Ramones Classic, Leave Home, To Get 40th Anniversary Treatment

Following up a great debut like Ramones, released in 1976, was always going to be a trick. That album generated not only a fourteen track classic running just under 30 minutes total, but became a launchpad for many bands afterwards. It provided a template to American Punk that is respected and highly revered.

In 1976, less than a year later, Ramones followed up their great debut with Leave Home. Like Ramones, it contained fourteen songs, and clocked in under 30 minutes as a whole. And since it’s currently 2017, that marks 40 years since the release of Leave Home. And…like Ramones, it is being treated well with a massive and definitive celebratory update.

On July 21, Rhino will, once again, revisit Leave Home. In the pipeline is an Anniversary set that will spread over 3CDs/1LP as a Deluxe Edition. The vinyl LP will feature the 40th Anniversary Mix. As Ramones (the album) was given a grand 40th Anniversary set, Leave Home will be so honored. The original album will be released as a single CD issue.

Here’s what you can expect including a brand new remaster of the original mix PLUS the inclusion of a 40th Anniversary Mix:

[UPDATE] 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition Of Ramones Debut

Ramones RamonesWell over a month earlier, I mentioned the upcoming 40th Anniversary of the great 1976 debut from Ramones. Since the release of that album, the era of punk was ushered in completely. After that magnificent eponymous debut album, Ramones achieved a legendary status revered to this day. MusicTAP mentioned that the album would be released on July 1 as a 3CD/1LP Collector’s Edition. That date has since shifted to July 29. To be sure, the set is pricey. But it contains an extraordinary amount of historical tracks to make the purchase a worthy one if you’re a Ramones fan through and through.

The 3CD/1LP set will offer a 2016 remaster of the classic fourteen-track masterpiece. The first CD will offer not only the 2016 Sereo remaster, but will also tack on the entire album in a new MONO mix. In addition to that, the two extra CDs will provide eighteen demos, outtakes, and single edit mixes, while the third CD will contain the two legendary Roxy sets from Hollywood on August 12, 1976. The second set is a previously unreleased live set. both live sets have been newly remastered. Each set features the exact same set list.

More surprising is the 180g-weight LP. It will actually contain the new MONO version of Ramones as opposed to an expected Stereo issue. That separates the set from being more than just a standard Super Deluxe Edition release.

The 3 CDs and LP are contained inside a 12″ x 12″ hardcover book. The book will present photographs that have been previously unseen. They are presented by the album’s original photographer, Roberta Bayley. The book is rounded out by notes, an essay, and other cool Ramones things. The album has been remastered by the album’s original producer, Craig Leon.

Most importantly, the box is a limited release with only 19,760 numbered sets being manufactured. (Clever, the number amount.)

40th Anniversary 3CD/1LP Deluxe Edition of Ramones Debut Planned For July

Ramones RamonesThe Queens, NYC band, the Ramones kinda took the world by storm way back in 1976 when they released their first Sire album, Ramones. For many, their musical lives changed in direction, quality, and style. With such great tracks like “Beat On The Brat”, “Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue”, “Blitzkrieg Bop”, and “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” found on their magnificent debut, classic cover with the tough boy look, Ramones literally captured most people’s attention. Now, it’s been forty years – long years – since that first Ramones classic hit the streets.

On July 1, Rhino Records will revisit that first album with a Deluxe 40th Anniversary Edition. This Collector’s Edition of Ramones will contain 3CD/1LP and is being assembled by the original album’s first producer. Some of the content will provide a live set, as well as a collection of demo racks as bonus material.

Currently, there is little to go on other than the fact we’re gonna get this. I’m sure that there will soon be other versions of this momentous album like a 2CD edition. Perhaps even a standalone LP set. As soon as the full info is in, I’ll update this page.

Hey Ho!
