Marillion Classic 1994 Brave Gets Remixed 4CD/BD, 5LP Deluxe Editions

Fans of Marillion have Steven Wilson in their corner. Remixing classic album tracks not only breathe brand new life into old recordings, it also provides his penchant for 5.1 Surround mixes. To me, a remix is better than remastering. I am often jealous of those bands that have Wilson’s attention. I just hope he expands to more bands including some that I have  extraordinary love for (Wishbone Ash’s Argus, and others!)

On March 9, watch for the Marillion 1994 classic, Brave. Continuing with upgrades to the Marillion library (Misplaced Childhood reissued in 2017), Rhino/Parlophone will provide a 4CD/BD set as well as a 5LP Box.

The 4CD/BD Box will provide a CD featuring the 2018 Steven Wilson Stereo remix, a CD with the original 1994 master of the album, and two CDs with a complete April 29, 1994 live set at La Cigale in Paris. The Blu-ray Disc (BD) will provide plenty of hi-res and visual goods. A richly designed book will accompany the set.

1985 Marillion Classic, Misplaced Childhood, Re-released As Album Only 2017 Remaster

Back in July, Parlophone and Rhino presented a Super Deluxe Edition of Misplaced Childhood, the 1985 Marillion classic. That release (read here) contained a lot for fans including a Steven Wilson 5.1 Surround mix. But as time passes, and these sets slow down in sales (or sell out), then the labels return to allow for a break out of the original album to be reissued. If that’s what you have waited for, then here it is.

On December 1, the 2017 remaster of Misplaced Childhood will be re-released on CD, DD, and vinyl LP as just the 10-track original album. Put it on your calendar. A pickup of this CD issue could also serve as a playable copy to preserve the boxed one that you’re trying to maintain.

Steven Wilson Remixes Marillion Classic, Misplaced Childhood, For July

When we think Steven Wilson, we think superior audio…audio so pure and clean that we are sometimes left with amazement at what we’re hearing. I recognize there are those that prefer only what was original vinyl (I do know people that prefer the original mix), but I have to say, I love listening to these remixes reveal new things to me. The good news here is two-fold:

On July 21, Parlophone and Rhino Records will release a massive remix of the classic Marillion album from 1985, Misplaced Childhood. To complement the remixed original, the new edition will provide 4CDs and add in a BD top off the box.

CD 1 will be the original Ten-track album. CDs 2 and 3 will include the full 1985 support show, Live at Utrecht with eighteen performance tracks. The remaining CD will include eighteen bonus tracks with demos, outtakes, and alternate mixes.

The Blu-ray will provide the expected hi-resolution 96/24 stereo remaster and 5.1 remixes. Also on the BD will be the 72-minute documentary, Childhood Memories, and four promo videos. The box is capped off by the inclusion of a 60-page book.

There will also be a 4LP (180g-weight vinyl)Box of Misplaced Childhood available on the same date.

New Marillion Album, FEAR, Set For September

Marillion FEARMarillion has been a solid fixture in music since the early ’80s. From their first album, Script For A Jester’s Tear (1983) until their last, Sounds That Can’t Be Made (2012), the band has produced a stunning array of music over their eighteen studio sets, including the two volume Happiness Is The Road from 2008. But, for a fan, even four years is too long a wait for new music.

On September 23, Marillion will release their next album entitled FEAR (or Fuck Everyone And Run or F*** Everyone And Run), As in usual Marillion manner, the album, and the songs contained therein, look closely at the world and its present brand of grief including the modern day attack of capitalism (“New Kings”), and politics (“El Dorado”). The new album will feature five new tracks, three in multi-parts (“The New Kings”, “El Dorado”, “The Leavers”, “White Paper”, “Living In FEAR”).

FEAR was financed though the PledgeMusic platform that has become a de facto standard for many established bands to avoid a contracted situation with a major label. With finished music, they merely need to contract for sales muscle from any established label. In this case, it’s earMUSIC, who will oversee the distribution of the finished album.

The album will be available as CD, DD, a first edition only SACD, and vinyl LP. (But you should see what was available during their financing run with PledgeMusic!)

Currently, the band is involved in a massive supporting tour that will take them to many places.

2CD Marillion Live Set To Arrive In July

Marillion A Sunday NightWhat can be said about a band that never quite made the mainstream and yet holds the rapt attention of so many music fans? That’s the legacy of Marillion, a band with one of the more rabid followings in Rock and Roll. Marillion formed in the late ’70s, brandishing their style of Progressive music to excellent results.  To date, the band has more than 15 studio albums including the Misplaced Childhood set from 1985.

Strangely enough, the band continues to do well throughout the world markets except for the US. It is reasons like these that have me confused with the American markets.  Nevertheless, Marillion continues to entertain and delight a lot of fans no matter where they’re placed.

On March 10th of 2013, the band convened at their usual Marillion weekend held in The Netherlands. Their show was recorded and is now planned for a 2CD Live release.

Scheduled for July 22, Eagle Rock Entertainment plans to release A Sunday Night Above The Rain, where Marillion displayed their musical talents on all of the songs from their then recently released, Sounds That Can’t Be Made (2012), and a selection of classic tunes from their extensive repertoire. The live set will be released as the noted 2CD set, as well as DD. A Sunday Night Above The Rain will contain 13 songs in all (track-list below).

1. Gaza
2. Waiting To Happen
3. Lucky Man
4. This Strange Engine
5. Pour My Love
6. Neverland
7. Invisible Ink

1. Montréal
2. Power
3. Sounds That Can’t Be Made
4. The King Of Sunset Town
5. The Sky Above The Rain
6. Garden Party
