New Gov’t Mule Album In June, Revolution Come…Revolution Go

Gov’t Mule has enjoyed a classic success for a side-project of Warren Haynes and Allen Woody, both part of Allman Brothers Band. This success replicates the success once enjoyed by Hot Tuna, also a side project experiment. (Hot Tuna was an interim project for Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen, both of Jefferson Airplane.) Formed in 1994, the band has released over 20 studio, live, and ‘odds ‘n ends’ sets. Since their formation, Gov’t Mule has become a classic Southern jam band with a sizable fan-base.

On June 9, Gov’t Mule will release their latest album, Revolution Come…Revolution Go. The new album will contain twelve new songs with a 2CD Deluxe Edition adding in six more tracks. the new album is being released released via Concord Records after a massive Pledge Music self-funding effort. As a matter of fact, if you go to their Pledge Music page, you’ll be inundated with a wealth of bundles and other goodies (here). Concord will distribute the music to stores  and online markets.

Revolution Come…Revolution Go will be released on CD, 2CD Deluxe Edition, DD, and vinyl 2LP.

Gov’t Mule will undertake a large Spring tour to support the new album.

Hot Tuna 9CD Replica Box Now Available

Hot Tuna BoxFor fans of the legendary spin-off band of Jefferson Airplane (that I thought was a superior band to JA), it’s nice to see that Hot Tuna still gets a deserved measure of respect.

Hot Tuna was formed by Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen as a respite from downtime with Jefferson Airplane. But the success of the band urged them forward to the tune of five studio albums (not counting those recorded after Hoppkorv (1976), but NOT discounting them either!), and their three live sets, including their debut self-titled album in 1970.

Currently available, there is a limited edition 9CD Box that contains the essential Hot Tuna issues through 1978’s Double Dose live set. All of the CDs are sleeved in Japanese-styled mini-LP cardboard papersleeve replicas. In addition, the Box will offer an exclusive bit of artwork on a 12″ by 24″ tour poster, and a 28-page LP-sized booklet with photos, new liner notes, memorabilia, and 12″ x 12″ original album art. The Box itself is an LP sized set.

The CD Vinyl Replica Collection will be limited to just 1000 numbered editions worldwide.

Latest Jorma Kaukonen Album, Ain’t In No Hurry, Gets LP Release In June

Jorma Kaukonen Ain't In No HurryJorma Kaukonen is best known as the guitarist for Jefferson Airplane during their long, long ago string of excellent albums that ended when the band members took decidedly different directions. Kaukonen teamed with his JA bandmate, bassist Jack Casady to start the bluesier Hot Tuna. Hot Tuna actually was a side-project formed during JA’s existence to allow the two to explore music quite different than what Jefferson Airplane were involved in. As it happened, Hot Tuna quickly found its own audience resulting in numerous best-selling albums.

Fast forwarding these many years later finds guitarist Jorma Kaukonen with his Fur Peace Ranch, where the legend offers guided guitar training. In 2011, Kaukonen and Casady recorded a new Hot Tuna album, Steady As She Goes. It slotted quite nicely with the classic albums of the band’s early years.

Over the years, Jorma Kaukonen has released blues albums, his last being River Of Time from 2009. Earlier this year, Jorma released his newest solo effort, Ain’t In No Hurry on CD and DD. The new album contains eleven tracks that include classics from the Americana songbook including a rare Woody Guthrie lyric set to new music by Jorma. In addition to the collection of covers, Jorma Kaukonen adds in a few originals to round out this set, including the acoustic closer song, “Seasons In The Field”. The album’s offerings are rich and fulfilling with its blues, country, highlighted by his inimitable guitar playing. Just listen to the album’s “Where There’s Two There’s Trouble”, sung with Teresa Williams. It’s pretty good, and shows off some fine blues guitar slide work.

On June 22, Kaukonen’s own Red House Records will release the LP version of Ain’t In No Hurry. The LP will offer download rights (on an enclosed card with unique code) to the album tracks.

Jorma Kaukonen has always been a treat to listen to. With this new album, Jorma continues to offer his best.

Ain’t In No Hurry on LP can be pre-ordered via his Fur Peace Ranch site here. CD can be acquired here.
