Emmylou Harris 1985 Classic, The Ballad of Sally Rose, With 2CD Expanded And Remastered Reissue

To this day, Emmylou Harris is a recognized and adored singer from the ’70s and beyond. Even First Aid Kit has recorded a song using Emmylou as the title, referring to the love affair between  Emmylou and Gram Parsons (and Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash). From her starter days, Emmylou has recorded a series of excellent ‘must own’ albums, and have won fourteen out of a stunning forty-eight Grammy nominations.

In 1985. Emmylou Harris released an original concept album called The Ballad of Sally Rose. It’s conceptual origins are with Emmylou Harris’s relationship with troubled Rock star, Gram Parsons. (This is a new revelation to me.) For a Country audience, the album was a pleasure.

On June 1, Rhino and Warner Bros Records will release a 2CD Expanded and Remastered Edition of The Ballad of Sally Rose. In addition to the album being remastered, there will be a second CD of accumulated nine demo tracks for most of the songs on his album and a TV mix of “Bad News”.

Family Vineyard Music has an ‘under the radar’ collection of music from Dow Jones and The Industrials. This garage punk band from the late ’70s needed a better PR machine than they had but managed to craft a split LP and an EP before disappearing. Autumn Tone Records will release the new album from the Chicago 3-member band,Yoko and the Oh No’s, planning the CD and LP releases for October 30. This band is interesting in that they are one of a few that mimic the late ’70s NYC indie styles of glam and abandon. And the lead singer is just graduated from HS. Looks like an early career start if they can maintain the interest. Check out the new album’s bluesy single video of “She Ain’t Mine” (below), and live footage of “James Baxter” from a Beat Kitchen club show (Chicago on Belmont). I’m impressed! And I like ’em!

TAPSheet: Vinyl LP Reissues By The Truckload

Whether you like it or not (and I know some of you), vinyl has made an interesting resurgence against digital downloads, and the CD. And while the purpose of this post is not to debate the quality issues, availability, or even viability, I think it fascinating that it has come back from virtually being eliminated from the marketplace. Nevertheless, as noted, we’re here for a different purpose, the releases of some vinyl titles.
