New Snakecharmer Album, Second Skin, Planned For May

Snakecharmer is a current supergroup of recognizable names from bands that were ascendant during the Golden years of Rock. Those include Micky Moody, and Neil Murray (bass), both from Whitesnake and the David Coverdale band (with Murray having logged time with Black Sabbath). There’s also Harry James (drums) from Magnum, and Thunder, Adam Wakeman (keyboards), who played with Ozzy Osbourne, Chris Ousey (vocals), previously with Heartland, and Laurie Wisefield, who played guitar for Home, and Wishbone Ash. Micky Moody is no longer with the band was replaced Simon McBride (guitar).

Their first release was their self-titled set, originally issued in 2013. The music is easily reminiscent of the early periods that these musicians played in so there’s a bonus for the older audiences looking for some authenticity. Snakecharmer earned a strong showing in the charts and in the live settings that they’ve played in. They have a strong Foreigner sound. Laurie Wisefield has also introduced his twin lead guitars effect learned from his years with Wishbone Ash to great effect.

On May 12, Frontiers Music will release the band’s second album, Second Skin. The new album contains eleven new tracks. Snakecharmer will be supporting the new album with a series of live shows in the UK beginning in May. Some shows are already near sell-out.

[UPDATE] New Ozzy-era Black Sabbath Set – The Ultimate Collection

[UPDATE: This CD and LP set commemorating the Ozzy-era Black Sabbath was previously scheduled for November 18 but is now on the calendar for February 3, 2017. Also, an unboxing video found at the end of this article.]

black-sabbath-the-ultimate-collectionFor many of us, we’re anxiously awaiting the arrival of the 4CD Paranoid Box set of the classic 1970 Black Sabbath album. But before that arrives, BMG will be releasing a nice 2CD ‘best of’ for the band, filled with songs that you know and love. All of the songs found on this collection are representative of the Ozzy-era ONLY! That means the set collects from the 1970 eponymous debut on through the last to feature Ozzy, Never Say Die! from 1978.

The new Ozzy-era Anthology is being called The Ultimate Collection. It is planned for CD, DD, hi-res HD DD, and a cool 1980g-weight vinyl LP set with 4LPs.

The 2CD sett is now planned for February 3, 2017.

The four LPs will be housed in a uniquely designed ‘crucifold’ jacket hat folds outward into a crucifix shape. Each end of the cross will house an LP. The 4LP set will arrive on February 3.

All tracks are newly remastered!

4CD Super Deluxe Edition Of Paranoid by Black Sabbath In November

black-sabbath-paranoidBlack Sabbath is one of the great Heavy Metal bands of all time. That’s not just my fan-based assessment but rather an accurate announcement accepted by most. From their first album, issued in 1970, to their well-received Paranoid, released the same year, Black Sabbath has since provided the entertainment that fans required. And they still do it today. Their last album, 13, was released in 2013 to good sales (for today). And although Black Sabbath has 19 studio albums to date, Paranoid still stands as the band’s most recognizable work.

On November 11, Rhino will reissue Paranoid in a 4CD Box Super Deluxe Edition that will also contain a book. Here’s what we know about the upcoming classic set:

The album will not feature new remastering but will offer the 2012 remaster of the album available in a Deluxe Edition released that year. In addition to that, the rare Quad mix of Paranoid will be included as a fold down to Stereo. To round out the four CDs, there will be two concerts made available from the Paranoid years. One will be an 7 performance track set from August 31, 1970 performed at the Casino de Montreux in Montreux, Switzerland. The other CD will feature a 9 performance track set from Brussels in 1970.

The hardbound book is a high point and will include extensive liner notes and new interviews with all of the original members. Plus, there will be more photos, detailed credits, and memorabilia, all associated with the release of one of Rock’s most influential Heavy Metal albums. Also included will be a poster, and a cool replica of the tour program from the Paranoid tours.

Special Edition Ozzy-Era Black Sabbath Titles Planned for Vinyl (and CD)

Black Sabbath Master Of RealityBlack Sabbath has always been the founding father of all things musically metal. Their arrival on turntables in 1970 with their eponymous debut have set into motion a whole new genre of music, not only in style but in how the music was presented. How’s that for starting the new decade of the ’70s, a decade that saw so many changes in Rock and Roll so as to be literal museum of sound. Black Sabbath helped to form that decade. And while the excesses of the times led to the demise of many bands, and led to the departure of Ozzy Osbourne from the seminal band, Black Sabbath persevered to remain a viable band.

No matter how you shake that tree, Black Sabbath was an integral and distinctive part of the realm of Rock and Roll. Throughout their long, long career, they released nineteen albums. While your choices of relevant BS albums may differ from mine or others, the fact remains, Black Sabbath was as great a band as any of the other great ones.

On August 5, Rhino Records will be revisiting ALL Ozzy-era titles with Black Sabbath (1970) with opaque red vinyl, Paranoid (1970) with black vinyl, Master of Reality (1971) with opaque green vinyl, Vol 4 (1972) with opaque orange vinyl, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973) with opaque blue vinyl, Sabotage (1975) with translucent purple vinyl, Technical Ecstasy (1976) with white vinyl, and Never Say Die! (1978) with gray vinyl. All vinyl LPs are limited edition releases and will be pressed on 180g-weight vinyl. Get them now if you’ve a mind to refresh your aging Black Sabbath vinyl!

In addition, newly manufactured CDs of each title will also be made available on the same date.

Four Black Sabbath Titles To Be Reissued As Deluxe Editions

One of the great forerunners of Heavy Metal music, much in the way that we continue to hear it is easily Black Sabbath. The UK band that featured Tommy Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass), Bill Ward (drums), and frontman extraordinaire, Ozzy Osbourne, released their debut in 1970, and started a career trajectory that exploded into a universe of stars.

The released albums (all 19 of them) are no secret or surprise to anyone who found the band to their liking. Some may have found all the albums great; some only just a few. But one thing is certain, the band was creative. Their creativity was heard not only in their recorded albums, but also in their many celebrated tours.

On January 22, Rhino Records will reissue four classic Black Sabbath titles that will include the previously mentioned self-titled debut, Black Sabbath (1970), the incredible follow-up of Paranoid (1970), Master Of Reality (1971), and their 2002 Live set, Past Lives. All titles mentioned will be released as Deluxe Editions. The sets include 2CD Deluxe Edition, as well 180g-weight 2LP Deluxe Editions.

The bonus inclusions will add in an interesting array of tracks.

Black Sabbath Past Lives

Memoirs Of A Madman, An Ozzy Osbourne Collection, Is Pegged For October

OzzyMemoirs Of A MadmanWhen you talk about Ozzy Osbourne, you’re rewarded with a wealth of remembrances. Generally, those warm, fuzzy feelings emanate from his years with the seminal Black Sabbath. That’s especially true if you were Black Sabbath fans early in their career. But then there are his successful years as a solo artist after his dismissal from Black Sabbath.  In many ways, those solo years carried far more success than his Black Sabbath affiliation did even if you can not dismiss his ties with the band.

During his high profile run, Ozzy released six albums (Osbourne has released eleven solo albums thus far) that generated quite a few hits including “Crazy Train”, “Flying High Again”, “Bark At The Moon”, “Shot In The Dark”, and more. With several high profile band mates that included Randy Rhoads, and Zakk Wylde, Ozzy soared like a monster in the clouds. Both Wylde, and Rhoads are highly rated guitarists. Soon, however, drugs and alcohol played their factor cards, and the whole enterprise suffered for it. Nevertheless, Ozzy Osbourne enjoyed quite the ride.

On October 14, Epic Records and Legacy Recordings join to release a collection of 17 of the best tracks from the strong Ozzy period called Memoirs Of A Madman. As a bonus to the album, a live rendition of the Black Sabbath classic track, “Paranoid” is included.

Memoirs Of A Madman will be released on standard CD, an edited PA version, and two 2LP sets that include a traditional black pressing, and a picture disc set.
