Love You To Death will be released on CD, DD, and a colored vinyl LP edition.

New McCartney Collection Expected In June

McCartney - Pure McCartneyIt looks like Paul McCartney has decided that either his bank coffers aren’t full enough yet, or that we still don’t have the right selection of accumulated hits and deep tracks. Because we’re getting a new ‘best of’ soon. My problem with the set – right off the bat – is that this is being touted as a collection of tunes that McCartney and his “team” selected as a set of favorite tunes. However, the problem with that kind of collection is that…well, being subjective, fans have a tendency to like an accumulation of the tried and true songs. And Wingspan already addresses that well enough. But it’s not for me to discuss in detail. It’s for me to tell you that it’s coming.

On June 10, Hear Music will release several versions of Pure McCartney. Pure McCartney is a curated set that brings together a bevy of songs from his solo career. The full 4CD Box will offer 67 tracks (see list below). There will be a 4LP set as well as a truncated 2CD edition. The 2CD Edition will contain 39 tracks. Take it for what it’s worth to you as a McCartney fan.

Allman Brothers Band Classic Idlewild South Reissue Details

Idlewild South 2CDMore details gave emerged from the upcoming December 4 reissue of Idlewild South, the second Allman Brothers Band, released in 1970.There’s lots of great music on this album, which includes the original version of “Midnight Rider”.

The new Deluxe Edition of Idlewild South looks great as a packaged set. It will be a nice library slot for all of your Allman Brothers Band collection pieces, sitting beautifully along with them. But, of course, it’s what’s inside that counts.

The set will offer Live At Ludlow Garage 1970. On both the larger 3CD/BD set, and the 2CD set, the whole show is available. The 2CD Edition only contains three bonus tracks. The album reissue adds in five bonus inclusions on the first CD that range from outtakes to alternates, plus a mono single edit of “Revival (Love Is Everywhere)” (see track list below). The added Blu-ray audio offers all of the tracks in high definition 96kHz/24-bit splendor, both Stereo and 5.1 Surround. The BD will include an added alternate mix of “Midnight Rider”.

The booklet looks to be extraordinary. If anything, at least don’t pass up the 2CD Deluxe Edition (if you’re a fan at all).

Deluxe Editions (with BD-Audio!) of Idlewild South by Allman Brothers Band Planned For November

ABB Idlewild SouthIdlewild South, the second Allman Brothers Band album, was released back in the rough terrain of the beginning ’70s. It followed a their eponymous debut by a mere ten months (bands were musically prolific and confident in those days). With much tour support, these two albums began to take on their own energy. Idlewild South contains the classic ABB version of “Midnight Rider”, a song later re-recorded by Gregg Allman for his Laid Back solo album. The Gregg Allman solo version charted well. Idlewild South is also home to another Allman Brothers Band classic, “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed”.

On November 27, Universal Music will release several versions of this album in an audio update, and expanded by a few bonus tracks. For fans of surround, the news becomes even better. There will be new upgraded mixes that will result in hi-resolution Stereo and 5.1 Surround Sound. Canada Amazon is presenting a December 4 date of release. It may be that this set is now planned for that date is Canada is ahead of the rest in updating. We’ll see.

What we can expect are a Super Deluxe Edition 3CD/1BD-Audio package as well as a 2CD set, and a simple CD issue with new remaster for the minimalists who care not for extra frills and materials. Thus far, the track-list is unknown. When it becomes known, I will update this post!

New Album From Amber Webber and Derek Fudesko, Kodiak Deathbeds

Kodiak DeathbedsIf you’re a fan of the Canadian band, Black Mountain, then you are no stranger to the voice of Amber Webber. For me, her voice is a standout. When Black Mountain is not doing anything (and they are a slow band. It’s been five years since we’ve heard anything new.), then the members are out doing a variety of projects. Amber is one of the busier of the group. A few years back, she recorded the excellent Fantasy album with Joshua Wells, (as Lightning Dust), who is also a member of Black Mountain. Since, she has recently released a digital version of her latest project, Kodiak Deathbeds.

She formed Kodiak Deathbeds along with Derek Fudesko (recently of Cave Singers). The band is a stripped down folk showcase that cannot go bad with Amber Webber at the mic.

The new album is filled with ten reflective tracks that are for the fan. They’re laid back affairs, contributing to the grace that Webber’s vocal range provides, and the gentle guitar of Fudesko. And if you’re a fan of either of these artists, or both of them, then I cannot recommend Kodiak Deathbeds enough for you. I’m not crazy about the name, or many of the names used by bands these days, but I can tell you, the album is worth the listen and purchase.

Amber and Derek

The album is streaming at several locations but primarily via Band Camp. The album can be physically had on vinyl LP with 50 available on a limited run of 50 for the hand-numbered version, and 450 of the standard vinyl issue.

It also bears noting that Amber Webber has publicly stated that Black Mountain is in the act of putting together new music for a new release. Yay!

10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of Wolfmother Debut Planned For September

Wolfmot_Wolfmot_CoverAr_250DPI72RGB1000166585The debut issue of Wolfmother by the Australian band of the same name was a huge success in Australia selling Platinum status FIVE times. While that was in 2005, that was an amazing feat. Elsewhere, Wolfmother’s first album turned Gold (sales of 500,000 copies) in the US, the UK, and Canada. Guess that album was somewhat a winner.

Since the eponymous first album, Wolfmother (with personnel changes at every stage) released Cosmic Egg (2009), and New Crown (2014). The last two albums did poorly, with Cosmic Egg achieving Platinum status in Australia, and not as well in other markets. New Crown did not chart at all. But everyone can easily say that the band’s first album was phenomenal.

On September 21, Universal Music will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the debut set with a 2CD Deluxe Edition that will provide a small collection of B-sides, remixes, demos, and live tracks (see track-list below). In addition to the planned 2CD set, Universal will reissue the album on vinyl LP, pressed on 180g-weight vinyl (first time in the US for vinyl LP). The 2LP set will come with a download card providing digital files of the Deluxe Edition. There will also be Digital Download files made separately available.

Wolfmother has completed recording on their fourth album, which is slated for release sometime in early 2016.

Black Mountain Celebrate 10th Anniversary Of Debut With Deluxe Edition In June

Black Mountain Black Mountain 10th Anniversary Deluxe EditionBlack Mountain, a Vancouver, BC band with a brilliant retro sound not unlike the heavy rock of the late ’60s, early ’70s, formed back in 2004. Formed with Stephen McBean, the excellent vocals of Amber Webber, and admirably rounded out by Matt Camarind, Jeremy Schmidt, and Joshua Wells, Black Mountain gave us an updated stoner rock sound that satisfied the music lover in a lot of us. (In the off times, Stephen McBean records with Pink Mountaintops, while Amber Webber and Joshua Wells create with Lightning Dust.) Their first album was the excellent self-titled Black Mountain album. Before it, the band offered up Druganaut, an EP of four tracks that featured an extended version of the title track, “Druganaut”, a modified version of which is found on the first full-length album.

Since the release of that first album, Black Mountain has gained a sizable fanbase. Their debut was followed up by the even more memorable, In The Future, in 2008, and book-ended by their equally memorable Wilderness Heart, issued in 2010. With 2015 well under way, I’d say that we’re anxiously awaiting a new Black Mountain album. However…

In our wait, it has been announced that their label, Jagjaguwar Records, will reissue the Black Mountain debut as a 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. Planned for June 23, this 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition will come lavishly expanded with eight bonus tracks from the original sessions. That efficiently reels me in!

Planned is the inclusion of the Druganaut EP with three of its original tracks, a UK Radio Edit of “No Satisfaction”, and four previously unreleased tunes that include “Behind The Fall”, “It Wasn’t Arson”, and two demo tracks, “Set Us Free”, and “Black Mountain” (see complete track list below).

In its release, Black Mountain – 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition will be issued on 2CD, DD, and a Limited Edition 2LP set with standard black vinyl, and a limited edition grey vinyl. The gatefold jacket of the 2LP will contain foil printing, as will the 2CD set.

[UPDATE] New James Taylor Album Of Originals, Before This World, Set For June

James Taylor Before This RoadJames Taylor, a staple troubadour of the late ’60s, early ’70s has a grand collection of albums and songs, many of them big hits, in his catalog. However, it’s been many years since we have been provided a collection of original tracks from the songwriter. His last album of original music is found on October Road, released in 2002. That’s well over 13 years ago.

On June 16, Concord Records will release his new album, Before This World, will provide ten new Taylor songs. It will be issued on CD, DD, and a Deluxe CD/DVD Edition, which will provide a “Making Of” video, There We Were. Vinyl LP is expected to issue on the same date.

First Of Three Marvin Gaye LP Boxsets, 1961-1965, Released In April

Marvin Gaye is getting plenty of re-release love these days. Not only is there a new Blu-ray Audio set coming for his Let’s Get It On (April 28, 2015) classic, there will now be a 7LP Box set, the first of three planned LP Box sets. This first Box set will span the Marvin Gaye recording years from 1961-1965. Those expected titles are The Soulful Moods Of Marvin Gaye (1961), That Stubborn Kinda Fellow (1963), When I’m Alone I Cry (1964), Hello Broadway (1964), Together (1964), How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You (1965), and A Tribute To The Great Nat “King” Cole (1965).

The Motown-issued set will be called Marvin Gaye 1961 – 1965. It is planned for release on April 21 (US), April 20 (UK).

New Alabama Shakes Album, Sound & Color, Planned For April

Alabama Shakes Sound and ColorBack in 2012, an exciting band by the name of Alabama Shakes released a phenomenal album called Boys & Girls. That album, buoyed by relentless touring, and a world-wide appearance on Saturday Night Live, went on to sell over 500,000 units of the album. With great blues songs like “Hold On”, and any of the remaining ten tracks, the secret was out, Brittany Howard was a voice to be reckoned with. In fact, I’d go so far as to say, it’s one for the ages.

Boys & Girls is finally being followed-up by a new album, Sound & Color, with a black cover that is the opposite of Boys & Girls’ stark white debut cover.

The new album will contain twelve new tracks. The album is being welcomed by the first single, “Don’t Wanna Fight” (heard below). And, if the awesome new song is any indication, then Sound & Color will be just as potent as Boys & Girls.

Sound & Color is scheduled for release on April 20 (Europe), April 21 (US). It will issue on standard CD, DD, and vinyl 2LP (with two separate color vinyl issues, one clear, the other blue). On the 2LP set, side four will feature etching. The LP sets will also provide DD download rights. If you pre-order via iTunes, you can have the new single immediately.  Exclusive packaging will provide Target buyers of the album with a bonus CD that contains a live set. ATO Records is the issuing label.

“Bless my heart, bless my soul (and bless yours, too)!” And yes, we’re VERY excited!
