Fleetwood Mac 1975 “White Album” To Be Expanded and Remastered

With the reissues of several Nicks/Buckingham-era classic albums, it was only a matter of time to get to the album that started that lineup. Their eponymous 1975 multi-platinum set that gave the world “Over My Head”, “Say You Love Me”, “Warm Ways”, and “Rhiannon” was ripe for the reissue pipeline. And while I personally love the pre-Buckingham/Nicks-era lineup better, I certainly do NOT hate this lineup.

On January 19, 2018, Rhino will release the next Fleetwood Mac reissue in several variations. Of course, the music here is newly remastered. But you will have choices with a single CD, (which features the primary album), a 2CD Expanded Edition that provides an additional four single edits on the first CD, and seventeen bonus pieces that show off the creative process of this album with embryonic early takes and versions, as well as a collection of live studio cuts.

There will be also be a Deluxe package that will deliver 3CDs, a DVD, and a vinyl LP of the original album. And a few things more for the avid Fleetwood Mac fan. This box provides the same two CDs as the Deluxe 2CD set, but will add in a CD of a collection of live tracks from three separate shows (Capitol Theatre – Passaic, NJ  10/17/1975; Jorgensen Auditorium – University of Connecticut Storrs, CT 10/25/1975; Campus Stadium – University of California 05/02/1976).

The included DVD for the Deluxe Box will contain high-quality Stereo (96kHz/24-bit) of the album’s original tracks as well as 5.1 Surround remixes. The 180g-weight black vinyl LP will be home to the original album tracks. All these will be housed in a 12″x 12″ embossed box (as seen below). The packed in book will provide photos, information and credits, memorabilia, new interview pieces, and new notes.

Several  early takes of popular songs from the album will be available individually as digital downloads or promo single streams (DD). Those are “Monday Morning (early take)” on 11/16/17, “Landslide (early version)” on 01/06/18, and “Say You Love Me (early version)” on 01/13/18.  Also, the CD and 2CD versions will be issued as DDs.

Bruce Cockburn Returns With New Album, Bone On Bone

Since 1970, when Bruce Cockburn (pronounced Ko-burn) released his self-titled debut on Columbia Records, the artist has consistently provided his fan base with album after album, almost year after year. To date, there has been twenty-four strong sets including Cockburn’s last album, Small Source of Comfort, which was released back in 2011. Since, it’s been relatively quiet, a strange anomaly given the usual consistency of one of Rock’s great male singer/songwriters.

Still signed to True North, we’re given the notice that Bruce Cockburn will rise from his solitude to provide his solid fanbase with a brand new solo effort, Bone On Bone. The new album will feature eleven new Cockburn originals (track-list below). Bone On Bone will be issued on standard CD, DD, and vinyl LP, all on September 15, although Bruce Cockburn’s site states September 8. (Go with September 15, for now.)

Bruce Cockburn is currently on a massive North American tour with eighteen scheduled Canadian dates from July 1 through September 30. He will hit the US with a total of 30 scheduled dates beginning on November 5 through April 21 of 2018. Get complete dates here.

30th Anniversary Of The Joshua Tree Gets A Little Love

A little late, I know. But in case you haven’t seen this, U2 is reissuing their classic 1987 gem, The Joshua Tree. While I infinitely prefer The Unforgettable Fire, and many others will not move past the U2 trinity of Boy, October, and War, The Joshua Tree IS considered by many to be U2’s defining masterpiece. And there is no doubt the songs within are enduring and memorable. No matter your stance on U2 and their recorded body, The Joshua Tree is surely an album that belongs in your collection.

On June 2, Universal/Island will reissue The Joshua Tree in several ways to include a massive set of addition to the original. There will be a single CD featuring just the original album, a 2CD 30th Anniversary Edition that will present the original album as well a CD filled with live tracks called The Joshua Tree Live at Madison Square Garden 1987. That live set will feature 17 live performance tracks. The stakes are upped for the serious fan with the issuance of a 4CD Super Deluxe package providing a CD with six remixes of familiar tracks, and a fifteen-track CD filled with B-sides and outtakes including a 2017 Eno remix of “One Tree Hill Reprise”.

For the vinyl aficionado, there will be a complete 7LP set with all of the good stuff, and a 2LP set for the original. Of course, there will be digital as well. I’m even sure there will be Hi-Resolution DD, although this is NOT confirmed.

The 4CD Box will provide an 84-page book of photos, and eight color prints. These will be cased in a solid and durable outer box with a gold-foil press of a joshua tree on the top.

If some reports are to be believed, the year of these remastered tracks are 2007, the year they released their 20th Anniversary Edition. I consider that pure laziness on their part, but that’s just me. (I’d love to hear what Steve Wilson could do with these – and other – U2 tracks with his remix prowess.) If you’re going to this massive length, then go all the way, say I!

With the upcoming new U2 album in the works, it sounds like a good year to be a U2 fan.

If you want more, a quick trip to the official U2 site will put you in the lap of a mix of bundles that include tees, and record bags.

The Doors Get 3CD/1LP 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition Of 1967 Debut

As 2017 gets into motion, it’s nice to see news about one of the New Year’s big reissue, the remastered and expanded Anniversary edition of The Doors eponymous debut. Originally released in 1967, the album introduced the band to the world. They were already a favorite of the famed LA music scene, and this album was the result of years of playing smaller stages. The fact that it’s actually been 50 years since the release of this classic album is amazing in and of itself (I was a mere nine years old at its release).

The Doors provided not only an all around excellent listening experience, but also two big hits with “Break On Through”, and “Light My Fire”. I’m sure that this news is being met with more than a bit of enthusiasm. Of course, with this, you’re getting a huge set that may include more than you’re wanting (like vinyl LP).  Nevertheless, this 50th Anniversary Edition is pretty well stocked. Not everyone will be pleased. therefore I suggest waiting for the inevitable breakout CDs that will feature the Stereo and Mono mixes along with a minimal booklet.

The package includes the original album on two CDs as original mixes that include Stereo, and Mono. Each set of mixes come on their own CD. The third CD is an eight track live set of Live At The Matrix (San Francisco) – March 7, 1967. A vinyl LP is added of the original Mono mix. The discs are housed in a 12″ x 12″ hardcover book. The book treats with rare photos, new notes, and more.

The Doors: 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, reissued via Rhino Records, will be made available on March 31.

40th Anniversary Rush Classic, 2112, Planned For December

rush-2112-40th-cropIf you ask people which Rush album was the one that started their life-long adoration of the band, i’d likely be 2112. Of course, there are those that found them before that album, but I wonder as to how many. I missed their first album, and came in the the tail end of their third, just a short bit before 2112. But it was 2112 that I loved, with Caress of Steel coming in a very close second. And to think that it’s 40 years old!

On December 16, Mercury Records will release a remastered and expanded 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of 2112 called 2112 40th. And filled with riches worthy of the lyrics of a Rush tune.

There will be three variations of 2112 that will include a 2CD/1DVD Deluxe set, a massive all-inclusive Super Deluxe Edition, DD, and a 200g-weight 3LP set.

rush-2112-2cddvd

The 2CD and DVD Deluxe Edition will provide the original album with 2015 remastering found on the first CD. The second CD will offer rare material from the album’s period including live performance tracks, and some previously unreleased songs from the period. The DVD will provide a video of a full 1976 concert from their show at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ. Also found on the DVD will be a new interview with Alex Lifeson, and their long-time engineer and producer, Terry Brown. there are other segments included as well.

The 3LP vinyl set will offer not only the etched art found on the 2015 vinyl edition, but will also include an exclusive Starman turntable mat.

rush-2112-3lp

The Super Deluxe Edition will provide the 2CDs, the DVD, and the 3LP vinyl package in one purchase. Also included in that huge set will be two 12″x 12″ lithographs, a reprint of a show program (Massey Hall), three buttons (one with each band member), and with the first 1000 pre-orders, a bonus 7″ ‘big hole’ vinyl single of “The Twilight Zone” b/w “Lessons”. As an extra bonus, a newly designed 45 adapter ring will be included. All of the sets will be housed in a velvet lined box.

[UPDATE] Before The Dawn With Kate Bush Information

kate-bush-befor-the-dawnSince this hotly contested post (right, Pat?), the official news has been provided that Kate Bush is, indeed, putting out Before The Dawn. It would now appear that all points of purchase will be getting physical product. Since my original post, several things have happened: 1) 3CD and 4LP sets have been announced, and 2), an date change has occurred that pushes the release date closer by a week. It is now listed as November 25 in areas outside the US. The US will get all issues (3CD, DD, 4LP) on December 2.

The 3CD set and 4LP set will come with a 24-page booklet.

Back in late summer of 2014 on through to October 1, Kate Bush performed a series of shows called Before The Dawn. The shows were spectacularly received as was expected. In fact, two dates were filmed with a potential DVD release in mind. To date, that hasn’t happened (as far as I know). Which leaves a lot of disappointed fans, both attendees and fans that were unable to attend. And here we find ourselves in the latter part of 2016.

before-the-dawn-3cd

On December 2, Concord Records will release a digital album with 29 selected performance tracks that covers three acts of the show. The show ran for 22 dates at the Eventim Apollo Hammersmith. For now, there isn’t anything to indicate a DVD, BD, or even CD for the title. But this is certainly a step in the right direction, I’d say.

4CD Super Deluxe Edition Of Paranoid by Black Sabbath In November

black-sabbath-paranoidBlack Sabbath is one of the great Heavy Metal bands of all time. That’s not just my fan-based assessment but rather an accurate announcement accepted by most. From their first album, issued in 1970, to their well-received Paranoid, released the same year, Black Sabbath has since provided the entertainment that fans required. And they still do it today. Their last album, 13, was released in 2013 to good sales (for today). And although Black Sabbath has 19 studio albums to date, Paranoid still stands as the band’s most recognizable work.

On November 11, Rhino will reissue Paranoid in a 4CD Box Super Deluxe Edition that will also contain a book. Here’s what we know about the upcoming classic set:

The album will not feature new remastering but will offer the 2012 remaster of the album available in a Deluxe Edition released that year. In addition to that, the rare Quad mix of Paranoid will be included as a fold down to Stereo. To round out the four CDs, there will be two concerts made available from the Paranoid years. One will be an 7 performance track set from August 31, 1970 performed at the Casino de Montreux in Montreux, Switzerland. The other CD will feature a 9 performance track set from Brussels in 1970.

The hardbound book is a high point and will include extensive liner notes and new interviews with all of the original members. Plus, there will be more photos, detailed credits, and memorabilia, all associated with the release of one of Rock’s most influential Heavy Metal albums. Also included will be a poster, and a cool replica of the tour program from the Paranoid tours.

Simple Minds’ New Gold Dreams (81-82-83-84) Box Soon

Simple Minds New Gold DreamsSimple Minds is a band that has never strayed far from the consciousness of their fans. They still release fantastic albums. I’ve never failed to be impressed by their songwriting capabilities, their musical arrangements, song selections, etc. I was an early fan following them up into their moments of fame, and then afterwards where, album after album, they just keep getting better and better. But enough about that. There’s a reissue coming. And it’s one of the great classics.

On July 29 (UK), August 5 (US), New Gold Dreams (81.82.83.84) will be reissued with every stop pulled out for it. New Gold Dreams (81-82-83-84) will come to us in several ways that include a 2CD Deluxe Edition, a vinyl LP set, a BD-Audio version, and a heavily crammed Deluxe Edition.

New Gold Dreams will feature -obviously- new remastering. The Super Deluxe Edition will offer CDs of Extended Versions, Edits and B-Sides, Alternate Mixes, and Radio Sessions. With the original album that counts for five CDs filled with Simple Minds and New Gold Dreams riches. Another disc is a DVD that will present 5.1 Surround mixes of the original album (pulled from the 2005 DVD-Audio). The DVD will also provide two promo videos (“Promised You A Miracle”, “Glittering Prize”), and two previously unreleased Tops of the Pops performances (“Promised You A Miracle”, “Glittering Prize”). All of this is housed in a nice Box along with a 36-page booklet.

New Gold Dreams Remaster SDR Box

The 2CD Deluxe Edition will provide the original album and a second CD with the contents of the Extended Versions (see track-lists below). The vinyl LP will be a 180g-weight black vinyl pressing and include the download code for the digital files of the album. The BD-Audio set will contain everything found on the DVD set included in the Super Deluxe Edition along with the original album.
