New Joe Jackson Album, Fast Forward, Planned For October

Joe JacksonJoe Jackson has lost no class and flavor over his thirty-six years of music that began with his overnight success, Look Sharp! (1979). With the new-wave sound of “Is She Really Going Out With Him?” on through to his jazz and cabaret-infused later albums that generated hits like “Steppin’ Out”, Joe Jackson proved that he was versatile.

With a new album on the horizon, Joe Jackson has released a single to support it. The new single, “A Little Smile” (can be heard below), goes a long way to let us know that the quality of Joe’s voice, and his ability to produce a classy song has not been compromised over these decades. There are two more singles from the album expected to roll out in the weeks before the actual release of the album. On September 4, watch for “The Blue Time”, and on September 18, listen for “Ode To Joy”.

On October 2, Sharp Practice Productions, distributed via Caroline Records, will release the new Joe Jackson album, Fast Forward.  It will feature four sets of four tracks that were recorded in four different locations (New York, Amsterdam, Berlin, New Orleans). Each city set used different musicians for the sessions.

New The Dead Weather Album, Dodge And Burn, Scheduled for September

The Dead Weather Dodge And BurnIn 2009, a band featuring Jack White, Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age), Jack Lawrence, and Alison Mosshart (The Kills) released their first album, Horehound. By 2010, The Dead Weather released its followup, Sea Of Cowards. Both albums were quite good, and had received plenty of critical acclaim. And then, we didn’t hear from them again.

Recently, it was announced that Jack White’s label, Third Man Records, would be releasing the new The Dead Weather album on September 25 of 2015. For fans of the band’s first two albums, and for those lucky enough to have seen them in a concert setting), thi is indeed good news. The new album is being called Dodge And Burn, and will feature eight new songs, along with four remixed and remastered previously released tunes (“Buzzkill(er)”, “It’s Just Too Bad”, “Open Up (That’s Enough)”, “Rough Detective”).

Emerson, Lake & Palmer Live In Montreux 1997 Released In September

ELP Live At Montreux 1997There is little that needs to be written about Emerson, Lake & Palmer. They’ve enjoyed two distinct go-arounds that included their rise to fame career that gave us four stunning albums, and a forgettable, tired album (Love Beach – 1978) that do not include the two indulgent volumes of collections that were entitled Works. With a decline in interest, the band broke up. Their second turn gave us two more albums (Black Moon – 1992, In The Hot Seat – 1994), however, tensions and other issues brought ELP to an end. Nevertheless, ELP STILL commands a respect that is often satisfied by multiple reissue and remastering of their classic era albums, and a handful of other issues.

On September 11, Eagle Rock Entertainment will look back and release a live set featuring the ELP of the second period. The album, Live At Montreux 1997 will feature familiar ELP classics like “From The Beginning”, “Karn Evil 9”, “Lucky Man”, and a medley of songs from the catalog. In addition, this live set from their show on July 7, 1997, also features tracks that never had a place on any of the band’s studio albums (“Touch And Go”, “Creole Dance”, “Carmina Burana”)

ELP – Live At Montreux 1997 will be released for the first time. It is expected on 2CD sets as well as being made digitally available. The 2CD set will contain a booklet with newly-written individual notes by each member of Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

New PiL Album Coming In September, Preceded By Single In August

In 1978, after the demise of The Sex Pistols, John Lydon (or Johnny Rotten, however you want to name him) formed an excellent band with Public Image, Ltd, or PiL, for short. Since that assembly, which initially boasted a supreme lineup with Jah Wobble on bass, Keith Levene on guitar, and Jim Walker on drums, several excellent albums have been created.

The first album, First Issue, was released in 1978 and followed by nine more leading up to this new announcement of more PiL music. The last one, This Is PiL, was issued in 2012. It enjoyed moderate critical success.

PiL Double Trouble

The band, which has only Lydon as its mainstay, is assisted by Lu Edmonds, Scott Firth, and Bruce Smith. They have a new album planned for September 4 via the band’s official label, PiL Official. The new album is being called What The World Needs Now…. It will contain eleven new songs including the first single, “Double Trouble”. The fore-running track of “Double Trouble” is being released as a 10″ vinyl single with album track, “Bettie Page” on the flip side along with a non-album track, “Turkey Tits”. It will be released officially on August 21 via the band’s website. You can hear “Double Trouble” at its Soundcloud account or on an official YouTube video (hear below).

What The World Needs Now… will be released on CD, 2LP, and DD (via iTunes), or as FLAC, WAV, and MP3 via Bleep. You can pre-order via Cargo Records, the distributor of the titles.

Billy Gibbons Of ZZ Top To Release First Solo Album, Perfectamundo, In October

Billy Gibbons PerfectamundoAs if the realm of ZZ Top weren’t enough, guitarist and vocalist, Billy Gibbons, has decided to move beyond (not quit) the band and record his first ever solo album. The new album is a reflection of beloved musical styles that includes forays into a Latin flavored brand of hot Rock and Roll as only he might be able to deliver it. The new album is called Perfectamundo, and is scheduled for release via Concord Records on October 23.

Perfectamundo allows Billy Gibbons to explore things that are special to him. The album contains eleven tracks including a unique Hip-Hop styled “You’re What’s Happenin’, Baby”. Of course, as would be expected, much of this new album is Rock. The “Piedras Negras” tune is Stones-like, and “Hombre Sin Nombre” conjures up Santana. With combinations like these, Perfectamundo is likely a listen down the right path.

Perfectamundo is collaborated on by a select group of favored musicians being called The BFG’s.

New Keith Richards Solo Album, Crosseyed Heart, Planned For September

Keith Richards Crossyed HeartKeith Richards can have the age of 71 thrust upon him all everybody wants. Truth is, he still has that heart of the rock and roller that he’s been in possession of during his early years with The Stones. Same guy!

On September 18, Keith Richards will release his next solo album, Crosseyed Heart. This is his first solo set since Main Offender from 1992. He has released a track from the new album, which is called “Trouble”. And yes, it IS good (hear for yourself below).

The new album will feature fifteen new songs. Many of them were performed with Keith on most of the instruments.

New Ben Folds Solo Album, So There, Scheduled For September

Ben Folds So ThereBen Folds has been making music for his audience since 1995 when he was a part of the alternative band, Ben Folds Five. In addition to those, Ben Folds has provided three solo works without the band (Rockin’ The Suburbs – 2001, Songs For Silverman – 2005, Way To Normal – 2008). Scattered throughout his time, there have been a number of wonder collaborations.

The Enemy To Release New Album, It’s Automatic, In October

The Enemy Its Automatic CDBack in 2007, a band called The Enemy (The Enemy UK for US audiences) released a number one album, We’ll Live And Die In These Towns. the album was an extraordinary one eclipsing many of the more seasoned bands with an album full of potential singles. In fact, that debut released seven singles. The album itself soared to the coveted Number One slot in the UK charts in its first week of release.

The band nervously followed it up with their second album, Music For The People. Released a few short years later in 2009, the album failed to recall the brilliance of its predecessor. It did yield three singles doing various business in the charts.

Streets In The Sky was released in 2012 and was not too well received by fans and critics. It would seem that the band had its day in the sun. The thinking would be that at least they had that brilliant and shining first album.

After lots of work, the band is re-emerging with a fourth album to be released on October 9. The new album is a make or break set that the band seems to be completely happy with. It is being called It’s Automatic.

The lads are going to great lengths to tell their audiences and fans that the new album will be different than any of their previous three. They have hope that It’s Automatic will be accepted on its own merit much like the debut had been. There is a first song available currently that will be offered free with pre-orders.  They had this to say bout the new album on their Facebook page: “It’s a fucking great record, and we’re delighted to say that we’re back with Warner Bros again via VAM Records. To people who are still living in 2007 it’ll be a shock but to us it’s a natural progression. The songs are some of the best we’ve ever written, the production is brilliant and you have to put the fear behind you.”

It’s Automatic will be released on CD, LP, DD, and hopefully a Deluxe Edition. The album is also being sold as signed CD and LP sets, and bundled editions with limited edition tees. The first song from the album, “Don’t Let Nothing Get In The Way”, can be heard on Spotify. For me, having been a long time fan of the three lads (Tom Clarke, Liam Watts, Andy Hopkins), I’m pleased with the new track. I suggest searching it out on Spotify if you have an account. Pre-orders of It’s Automatic will give you the track for free right away.

I hope you find this news as good as I have. I’m excited.
