Emmylou Harris 1985 Classic, The Ballad of Sally Rose, With 2CD Expanded And Remastered Reissue

To this day, Emmylou Harris is a recognized and adored singer from the ’70s and beyond. Even First Aid Kit has recorded a song using Emmylou as the title, referring to the love affair between  Emmylou and Gram Parsons (and Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash). From her starter days, Emmylou has recorded a series of excellent ‘must own’ albums, and have won fourteen out of a stunning forty-eight Grammy nominations.

In 1985. Emmylou Harris released an original concept album called The Ballad of Sally Rose. It’s conceptual origins are with Emmylou Harris’s relationship with troubled Rock star, Gram Parsons. (This is a new revelation to me.) For a Country audience, the album was a pleasure.

On June 1, Rhino and Warner Bros Records will release a 2CD Expanded and Remastered Edition of The Ballad of Sally Rose. In addition to the album being remastered, there will be a second CD of accumulated nine demo tracks for most of the songs on his album and a TV mix of “Bad News”.

UPDATE: Blues Pills Guitarist, Dorian Sorriaux To Release 4-Track EP, Hungry Ghost

If you have followed the band, Blues Pills, then you already know the kind of powerhouse blues/Rock they can produce.  With a successful album, Lady In Gold (2016), and a successful tour in the books, here was inevitable downtime.  Guitarist, Dorian Sorriaux had decided to put that downtime to effective use and has recorded a collection of songs that will be released as an EP.

On June 29, the Dorian Sorriaux EP, consisting of four psychedelic folk tunes, will be released as Hungry Ghost. This EP will be released via Soulseller Records.

Here at MusicTAP, I’m a big fan of Blues Pills. I’m also a fan of the resurgence and expansion of Psychedelic music. With both of these loves, I’m actually quite excited for this set, even if it’s small.

Barclay James Harvest 1970 Debut Newly Remastered and Remixed in 3CD/DVD Box

In recorded music, Barclay James Harvest have released a string of well-received progressive gems beginning at a time when Progressive music was still in its infancy. And for the better part of a decade after their 1970 self-titled debut, they had the attention of a dedicated audience. With seven songs, the album set a tone for their style moving forward. Their epic 12-minute “Dark Now, My Sky” is a rich, orchestral tune that made it easy to love if you were a bit adventurous. With subsequent albums like Octoberon (1976), Gone To Earth (1977), Time Honoured Ghosts (1975), the band became even deeper.

On May 25, Esoteric Recordings (a division of Cherry Red UK) will release a 3CD/1DVD Boxed set of the eponymous Barclay James Harvest debut. It will present the original album with a new remaster, and expand it with a collection of thirty-three bonus tracks that will include singles (A/B sides), sessions tracks, outtakes, a new 5.1 Surround mix, and a new Stereo mix, all from the original master tapes. In addition, there will be 96kHz/24-bit high resolution Stereo mixes, and a series of live BBC broadcasts to make this set a definitive one. The DVD will contain those new 96kHz/24-bit mixes (5.1 Surround, New Stereo Mix, Original Stereo Mix).

The box will provide a richly designed 68-page book with photos, essays, notes, and many other things to detail the release of this album, and the emergence of a talent in this band. Additional bonus adds include a replica orchestral tour program, two replica press releases, a replica 1968-issued record store poster announcing the release of the “Early Morning” single, and a postcards set.
