Alison Krauss is that rare talent that has won 27 Grammy Awards from an a mind-bending collection of 42 nominations. And that’s just with the Grammy Awards. She is in possession of many more awards from various other prestigious institutions like the CMA (Country Music Awards), AMA, (Americana Music Awards), and the Academy of Country Music Awards, just to give you a few. Also, she was a part of the highly acclaimed, awards-winning duet with Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant called Raising Sand, released back in 2007.
To date, she has primarily been associated with her affiliation with Union Station, a popular Bluegrass/Country band with more than ten albums in their catalog. She released her solo debut back in 1985, and was promptly signed to a deal with Rounder Records. To date, she has four solo albums in release, with her last one, Forget About It, issued in 1999. Seventeen years later, signed to a new label, Capitol Records, we’ll soon be getting a new solo album from Alison Krauss.
And who can forget her O Brother, Where Art Thou? contributions on the best-selling OMPS. Those were her extraordinary version of “I’ll Fly Away”, sung with Gillian Welch, and the haunting “Down To The River To Pray”.
Alison Krauss‘ new album, Windy City, is planned for February 17. The new album is a collection of ten cover tracks, and will not feature new compositions by the singer. Windy City will be released on CD, Deluxe Edition CD (with four bonus live tracks), digital download, and a vinyl LP.
