In 1994, Spoon, an Austin, TX band, released their first collection of music. The EP was called Nefarious, a four-track vinyl offering. Once signed to Matador Records (releasing Telephono (1996)), and Elektra Records (A Series Of Sneaks (1998)), the band eventually ended up more successfully on Merge Records. With the release of their Girls Can Tell in 2001, the band set the stage for a grand run. Their last with Merge Records was Transference, released in 2010.
The band’s fifth album (their third with Merge), Gimme Fiction was originally released in 2005. On December 11, Merge Records will celebrate the album’s 1oth Anniversary with a 2CD Deluxe Edition that will not only provide a 2015 remaster of the album, but will also offer a second CD of previously unreleased demos that support the album.
The 2CD Deluxe Edition of Gimme Fiction discovers twelve demos, and will, in addition, offer nine additional bonus tracks via download card (see track-list). The set will include a 56-page booklet with more photos, and an extensive history of the making of the album. The housing of this 2CD set is double digipack with a 12-panel insert. The downloadable content is being referred to as Odds and Ends.
There will also be a 2LP set provided, pressed on audiophile grade 180g-weight black vinyl. The LP set will be set apart with the attractive inclusion of a 24″ x 36″ poster. The 2LP set will add in a 24-page booklet, and be housed in a gatefold jacket. The download coupon for the bonus nine tracks is also inserted into this 2LP Deluxe package.
