AfghanWigsDoToTheBeastOne of Cincinnati’s excellent contributions to Rock and Roll were the grunge-styled band known as The Afghan Wigs.  Originally signed to pioneering label, Sub-Pop before moving on to Elektra, and then Columbia Records for their combined total of six excellent albums, it’s now been over fifteen years since we have had any significant new music from the band.

Fortunately, for all the fans of the band, that’s all about to change.  Re-signed to their first label, The Afghan Wigs plan to release their brand new album, Do To the Beast, on April 15. The new album will contain ten songs and should be more than enough to help the band through their new tour, which includes a stop at the famed Coachella featival in California.

Do To The Beast will be issued on CD, the now expected Digital Download standard, and, for vinyl fans, a 2LP 180g set that is mastered to 45RPM, and will be housed in a gatefold edition.  The LP set will also include download rights to the entire album.  The CD gatefold digipak, as well as the 2LP set will include a 16-page booklet.

Welcome back, Afghan Wigs.

  1. We have had some pretty good bands start out here (Cincinnati) Afghan Wigs, Foxy Shazam, Heartless Bastards, The National, Black Veil Brides and Walk The Moon to name a few that originally formed in Cincinnati. I also live about 10 miles from the former King Records studios where James Brown, Hank Ballard, Freddie King and many others recorded. It’s boarded up, but there is talk of making it a museum.
